Export Activities |

The main target region for foreign sales of German furniture is Europe. Of total furniture exports, approximately two thirds are sold in member countries of the European Union. The new EU member countries in Eastern Europe are becoming increasingly important for our industry. These new markets are becoming more and more attractive for our manufacturers, not only as further production locations but also as markets of tomorrow or later.
Appearances by German furniture manufacturers at trade fairs worldwide are organised as a preliminary step towards opening new markets. Participation at many worldwide trade fairs are planned with financial support from the Federal Ministry of Economics.
VDM used to work in close cooperation with the Export-Marketing-Gesellschaft, based at the regional association headquarters in Herford. By means of such cooperation, export activities are concentrated and specifically worked out. Apart from the organisation of participation at trade fairs, market strategies are developed, economic analyses of selected regions prepared, and company pools established in regions which are especially attractive for export business.
The export trade deficit of the German furniture industry is still high, as before. Demographic projections for Germany suggest any hopes for a real increasing demand for furniture in the domestic market, so that a future boom for the industry is mainly to be expected foreign markets.
